One Person Who Has Had a Positive Impact on My Life

It may be a cliché to say that mothers are the most influential people in one’s life; however, I believe it has a lot of truth in it. My mom has had far beyond a positive impact on my life. She has been a role model, and example and my encouragement at all times.
My mother has gone through a lot of tough moments, but that has not stopped her from achieving her goals and setting new ones. At a very young age she was sent to a boarding school because my grandmother believed that to be the best for my mom. However, very soon they discovered that the school fees were out of their possibilities, so my mom had to work hard to pay for her education. That made her learn the importance of working.
When my mother finished high school, my grandmother persuaded my mom to go back home because they could not afford a private university for her. Nevertheless, my mom decided to risk it and work hard to get the education she was dreaming of. The result: she finished her undergraduate degree with honors.
I recall being a child and seeing my mom going through her master’s program as well as working part time and taking care of my brother and me; all that, of course, with help from my dad. She knew she wanted to continue with graduate education and she did it. Then it came the time for her docotral degree. It took her a longer time due to some health problems, but with determination and lots of prayers she finished it. I was very proud of her, and I still am, because that was just the beginning of a new stage in her life. She did not finish there; now she is committed to research and continues pursuing more goals in her professional life. She has set the goal very high herself, and that has made me think that I should not settle for less.
Also, her determination to change her lifestyle made a great impact on my own lifestyle. After three months of a very aggressive health treatment to try to eradicate a stomach illness, she decided to give a 180º shift to her life. She became vegan, started to do more regular exercise and be more careful in her eating habits. She had already stopped eating red meat a while before this decision, but this time was radical and she was convinced it was the best for her health. Now, apart from not eating meat and dairy products, she does not eat greater portions of food than what her body requires and her meals are well balanced. These are just some examples of what she does to take care of herself and her body.
More than the change she made on her diet, what awes me the most is her perseverance. Ever since, she has not given up a single time, and she encourages people to be more careful with their bodies and their health. Without any pressure, but rather by example, she helped me decide to do something for my own health.
Most importantly, she has influenced the way I see things in life, especially the difficulties. She always tells me to look at the positive side of things. That is one of her mottos, to be positive and to always find the good side of every situation. Whenever I feel sad, tired of trying or disappointed, she tells me to keep it up and to be positive. That has helped me to go through a lot of troubles and apparent failures.
So, I know there is no need to go far back in time or far away to a foreign land in order to find one of my heroes. She is right there, within my very own family.

A very hot hot summer

I was invited to teach for a month in the University of Navojoa. Sonora is a terrible place to be in the summer, but at the same time it was a great opportunity for me to have more experience in teaching. So despite the high temperatures and the long hours of intensive teaching, I had a good time. Even had the chance to play two special songs at church and be with the family (my dad's side).

At least I tried

Now I know why her attitude really hurt me. It hurt because I cared about her and because I opened myself to her. And yet, she did not care at all, she did not appreciate it. It is not that I do not care about her anymore but I am not going to give something to someone that is not willing to accept it. It is a pity because I thought she was different, but at least now I can say that I know how she really is.

Opening yourself to someone can be risky because not always the other person appreciates your friendship. However, if you never try, you will never know.

Just because you're lazy?

I tend to underline and write notes on the books I read (when mine lol). While I was reading My Sister's Keeper a while ago, I found this interesting part that made me think a lot. Is it really true what it says there? I mean, I know it's a novel and all that, but could it be true? Can we be like that? Something to think about hehe.

The problem, you know, is that you never forget your firts one. And even if your brain's smart about it, your body's got the IQ of a fruit fly.
It's just so easy with him. It's like we're picking up where we left off. I already know everything I need to about him and he already knows everything he needs to about me.
Can you fall for someone because you're lazy?

What's the point?

What's the chat for if you are not online?
What's the e-mail for if you don't send me one?
What's the cell phone for if you don't have credit to call me?
What's a movie for if you don't have time to watch one?
What's spare time for if I cannot spend it with you?

Yesterday

I didn't tell you that you looked nice.
I wanted to invite you to eat at my place but I couldn't find the way to tell you.
I wanted to chat with you for a while but I was shy (coulnd't find an excuse to interrupt).
You looked for me and we had a good chat.

It was a great day after all (thanks to you).

Tomorrow... I might not be able to see you.
Will I stop smiling if I don't see you?

My roller coaster ride

I've been in this roller coaster for the past months... (caused by a special person to me).

First I was really happy because we were going out. I couldn't stop smiling and thinking of him. Then I was kind of sad because vacation came and I knew I wasn't going to see him in like 2 weeks or more. The 2 weeks passed and I was hoping to see him, but nothing happened. Then I was excited because I knew he was coming back for school. School time came and I heard nothing from him, so I told myself I was going to be patient. One day I saw him when I was driving around and my heart started beating -he made me happy ;) At church I thought I had heard his voice but didn't see him. Now I'm having this feeling that maybe he wasn't that into this as I wish he was (or as I thought he was) and that feeling makes me sad.

My hopes are still there, and will be there until the end -if it happens to be an end (I really wish this story has a happy ending though).

Or maybe he thinks I don't want to see him because we haven't seen each other, but how am I supposed to tell him that I so want to see him, go out with him, talk to him...?

When is it going to happen?

Every time I start a new semester I say, "This time I'm giving myself more free time" (as in I'm not going to be EXTREMELY busy as always). I never do it! and as usual, I've said it again this time... I need to see if I will be able to achieve that goal LOL, and seriously I need to slow down a bit. I NEED A BREAK!!! not as in no school, but as in a semester with less extra curricular activities that drive me crazy (and I love them all!!). Maybe that's the problem ► I enjoy doing lots of things, but I just don't have the time.

Anyway.... I do wanna slow down this time.

Oh, and my holiday fever.... it's all gone! I'm back to the uni, not actually in school (yet), but am back on campus and started with some english tutoring, so that officially puts me in a not-on-vacation status :(

Public apologize

I need to say it here, because the offense started here as well. Last week I wrote a post "attacking" a friend, and I'm really sorry about that.

*But please, do remember the last thing I told you... not because it's me or whatever... but for your own good ok ;)

I can play if that's what you want

I don't know why I started to play the same game he wanted to, but I know that I won't do it anymore. Or maybe I will, because I know how to do it. But there is one thing for sure: I am human and I have feelings, so I'm not going to let him just fool around with me as if it didn't matter to me at all, and as if I didn't have feelings.
Sometimes I wish it wasn't a word game, but since I know it is, I won't let it affect me at all. If he wants it to be something more than just a game, he would have to show it and stop being affraid of what could come next, because I'm sure something good could come out of this. But we could only know it IF we weren't just playing around.

Life is full of disappointments

Sunday, April 20, 2008

I need to talk to you but I can't find you
I need to tell you something but you can't hear me
I need to cry but you are not here to comfort me
I want to run and tell you about all the great things that happened to me today but I just can't
Will the time come when you will be here?

Failure?

Can someone predict their own failure and yet do nothing about it?
Well, I guess this is my case now. The semester is coming to its end and I see some failure in me. Even then, that doesn't bother me that much because I can also see some victory. The fact that I have already decided on what I really want to do and that I'm now having a chance to experience it makes me happy. Actually it even makes me want to do nothing about the 'failure' I'm facing right now.
It's sad, I know... but I can see some more victories coming as well. I just hope and pray that God keeps His blessings upon me and keeps me close to Him so that all those victories that may come are used for his service and glory.
